Old Mint, Valletta

Acrylic on Canvas - 60 x 70 cm

Inspired by one of Valletta's historic landmarks, this painting explores the enduring presence of the Old Mint through colour, light, and abstraction.

Island

Acrylic on Canvas - 70 x 100 cm

Titled Island—the literal translation of the Maltese town Gżira—this painting captures a sun-drenched, layered perspective of Malta's urban landscape. Utilizing a vibrant palette of soft pastels and Mediterranean blues, fragmented geometric blocks and fluid brushstrokes evoke the characteristic limestone facades, while bold horizontal lines hint at overhead cables, creating a sense of movement and modern gridlock. Rising elegantly in the background, the iconic cupola of Valletta breaks through the abstract shapes, grounding the viewer in Malta’s distinct geography.

Composition II

Acrylic on Canvas - 100 x 100 cm

An abstract exploration of light, shadow, and nature.

This piece captures the vivid atmosphere of Argotti gardens, where golden Mediterranean sunbreaks pierce through cool, shadowed canopy layers. Through energetic sweeps of magenta, ochre, and refreshing turquoise, the canvas translates the fleeting, dancing rhythm of sunshine filtering through leaves into a rich tapestry of colour and emotion.

Vittoriosa Creek, Valletta

Acrylic on Canvas - 70 x 50 cm

Seen from the ferry in the evening light, masts frame the distant silhouette of Fort St Angelo as the city glows across the water. Here, the boundary between land and sea disappears; reflections, light, and architecture merge into a single expression of a city that lives with the water rather than beside it.

Green Canopy, Floriana

Acrylic on Canvas - 120 x 100 cm

Bathed in dappled light and framed by a vibrant canopy of trees, Green Canopy captures the atmosphere of Triq Sarrija in Floriana.

Featured within the composition is the bronze Embryonic Horse, a public artwork by Rune Bo Jakobsen situated by the entrance of Argotti Gardens.

Green Canopy was exhibited as part of the 'Green City' exhibition held at the Phoenicia Malta, celebrating the relationship between green spaces within the urban landscape.

Studio Nude

Acrylic on Timber - 37 x 41 cm

In this striking figurative piece, Rune Bo Jakobsen explores the human form through a vibrant, contemporary lens.

A celebration of the body using bold, gestural brushstrokes and an incredibly warm, emotive palette of soft pinks, sunlit yellows, and deep magentas. The subject's seated, introspective pose is beautifully offset by a calm, cool turquoise background, creating a powerful contrast that emphasizes the natural contours, vulnerability, and inherent strength of the form. A beautiful study of light dancing across the skin.

Mdina Fortified

Acrylic on Canvas - 80 x 100 cm

Painted at the same time and sharing the same creative lineage as the artist's high-profile artwork for Malta International Airport's VIP Terminal City Lounge, Mdina Fortified deconstructs the imposing structure of the historic capital.

Inspired by the dramatic compression of space, the painting presents a breathtaking forced perspective. The composition deliberately frames the iconic dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral between the towering, ancient limestone fortifications.

Rune Bo Jakobsen utilizes a radiant, sun-soaked Mediterranean palette—infusing lime greens, warm ochres, and deep purples into the architecture to expose the vibrant light and hidden emotions embedded within historical stone.

Fields of Hay, Valletta

Acrylic on Canvas - 60 x 60 cm

A standout piece from Rune Bo Jakobsen's solo exhibition 'Cupola' at The Phoenicia Hotel Malta, Fields of Hay, Valletta deconstructs the historic city skyline into a vibrant landscape of light and colour. Defined by its exceptionally warm, Mediterranean-inspired palette, the painting juxtaposes fluid, abstract fields of gold, terra cotta, and soft pink against the distinct, rising silhouettes of Valletta's grand architecture.

Marsamxett, Valletta

Acrylic on Canvas - 60 x 60 cm

Viewed across Marsamxett Harbour, Valletta emerges through layers of Mediterranean light. Sea, architecture, and sky merge into a luminous composition that reflects the enduring relationship between Valletta and the water that surrounds it.

Eagle Street, Valletta

Acrylic on Canvas - 50 x 100 cm

A semi-abstract interpretation of one of Valletta’s iconic narrow streets. Through a vibrant tapestry of Mediterranean gold, azure, and deep ochre, Rune Bo Jakobsen translates the limestone architecture into a rhythmic play of light and shadow. The prominent archway serves as a frame within a frame, drawing the eye through the historic corridor and evoking the warmth of a sun-drenched Maltese afternoon.

Autumn Skies,
Beyond Grand Harbour

Acrylic on Canvas - 100 x 50 cm

Painted in 2018, Autumn Skies captures a sprawling, nostalgic view of Isla as seen from a traditional rooftop in Cospicua. Contrasting from his typical sun-drenched, high-summer tones, Rune Bo Jakobsen utilizes a dramatic and moody palette dominated by cool blues, stormy slate greys, and pale violets, punctuated by warm flashes of terracotta and gold. The composition masterfully balances heavy, textured impasto clouds with the elegant, rising silhouettes of iconic church steeples and domes across the Grand Harbour. It is an evocative tribute to the shifting Mediterranean seasons and the quiet beauty of Malta in autumn.

Aarhus Pulse

Acrylic on Canvas - 40 x 40 cm

This vibrant interpretation of Aarhus, Denmark, captures the living energy of the city streets. Anchored by a soaring, deep-blue spire reaching into a luminous sky, the painting balances sharp architectural forms with the fluid movement of pedestrians below. A warm, expressive palette of terracotta, sun-washed yellow, and soft pink creates a sense of nostalgic warmth, inviting the viewer to step directly into the rhythmic flow of Danish urban life.
